Beautiful Like Me: What should be beautiful?
When I picked this topic, I knew that it could be dangerous. It could cause some backlash and controversy in the blogoverse. But I would like to take the time now and remind everyone of the point of the project. The idea behind this project is to work together to show the next generation to appreciate beauty in all forms and to stand up for beauty. So, please, as you read these posts, keep this in mind. Everyone has an opinion on what is beautiful. Today, we will be discussing what would think people should focus on when they think of beauty. With that in mind, today’s topic is: What features/qualities would we like today’s children to see as beautiful?
Love – And by this, I don’t mean two teenagers necking in the parking lot. I mean, the love of a parent for a child. Two people walking down the street hand in hand. A friend offering a shoulder to cry on. Friends and family laughing together.
Charity – Of course, there is the obvious, giving time and money to local charities. But, there is also the not so obvious things. Holding the door open for strangers. Helping someone carry their groceries. Grabbing something off the top shelf for a stranger who is shorter than you.
Health – Healthy eating, exercise and generally taking care of yourself. Not being one extreme or the other with weight or activity level. Based on certain circumstances, not everyone can be the picture of health. But those who work to be healthy, despite that should be appreciated as beautiful.
Gratitude – Appreciating others who do things for you. Being happy with what you have, instead of always desiring the next big thing. Enjoying every day of your life as much as you can.
To me, these are the things that I could love to teach the girls to see as beautiful. I try to focus on these things above all else when we talk about what is beautiful. I want them to know that being physically attractive does not mean that the person is beautiful.
